Our Story 我们的故事
The story of our Chinese school started as a playgroup with family potlucks at one of our founders' home. Four families would gather for two hours, creating opportunities for their kids to play games and do activities in Cantonese, while parents prepped lunch and hung out. Within a few months, the play group grew to ten families and was done in Cantonese and Mandarin. Seeing how much the kids enjoyed learning through play and a growing interest from other families, co-founders Alice Leung and Ruijie Zhuo decided to start the South Shore Chinese School in 2016. To date, SSCS has served over 450 students, and our teaching team has expanded to more than 15 members, including our Student Teacher Assistants! We are dedicated to continue to expand and evolve our programs to meet the needs of families in the greater Boston areas.
我们的中文学校始于其中一位创办人在家中举行游戏小组和家庭聚歺。 最初有四个家庭相約聚会两小时，让孩子们用粤语玩游戏和做活动，而父母则在旁准备午歺和闲谈。 几个月后，这游戏聚会发展到有十户人家，并有粤语和普通话家庭参与。 看到孩子们在游戏中学习的乐趣，而且有更多家庭表示有兴趣参加，兩位创办人梁慧文和卓睿婕于 2016 年决定开办「南岸中文学校」。 到现时，学校已经服务超过四百多位学生，教学团队也扩展到十多名教师和学生助教。 我们将继续扩展学习计划，以满足在大波士顿各地区的家庭的不同需求。

BCNC has been our fiscal agent since the SSCS's inception. This partnership allows us to focus on building our educational programming, and creating a quality curriculum designed to serve the needs of our families and community.

SSCS's in-person programs started at the South Shore YMCA in 2016. The classrooms at the State Street Early Learning Centers are designed for young school-age children to engage in student-centered activities as well as group instructions.

Proudly serving South Shore communities, the South Shore YMCA is a membership organization open to all. The South Shore Y strives to serve the entire community by providing “Membership for All” financial assistance for those who cannot afford the full cost of membership and programs. Y programs, services, and facilities are designed to enhance the spiritual, mental, physical and social quality of life for all.
